Borsalino
The best hat in the world

Filmed at the Borsalino factory in Alessandria, Italy
In Italy, when you say ‘hat’, you immediately think of a ‘Borsalino’. Borsalino’s headquarters lie in Alessandria, a small town in Northern Italy. In the 1940s, the brand crafted around two million hats per year and employed 3,000 people, a fifth of the city's population at the time. The hat was such an icon that the word “borsalino” even appears in the Oxford English Dictionary as a noun used to describe “a man’s wide-brimmed felt hat”.

The worker in the Borsalino factory, Alessandria, Italy

In this film, I had the opportunity to interview and meet some of the employees of the factory. Some of them have worked there for years and can still recall the golden era for Borsalino, when a hat was as indispensable a part of the gentleman’s wardrobe as a pair of shoes. Listening to their stories was an amazing experience.DP: Johan Hannu

Even if the factory's output today may be a fraction of what it used to be at its peak, what the brand makes today is still a work of art.

	ViceFamily Food

Filmed in East London Established in 1900, E Pellicci – a charming, family-owned Italian restaurant in London’s East End – has seen off two World Wars, a global pandemic, and 125 years of flux in the city’s most chaotic neighborhood.
We paid a visit to meet its current custodian Nevio Pellicci and the rest of his clan, who served us up some delicious Italian cuisine and an eyebrow-raising lesson in the art of staying alive when all around you eateries are going to the wall.
From their famous full English breakfast to authentic cannelloni, there are plenty of reasons people have been going back to E Pellicci for generations.

	Soho HouseThe Ned

DP - Charlie Goodge

To launch The Ned Hotel, an exclusive new location part of the Soho House Group, I decided to create a film that has typical British wit and humour. In ‘The First Day’ we follow a young porter at The Ned Hotel. As we go through his day, we showcase the place. The rooms, the restaurants, the pool, the bars are seen through the eyes of someone who works there for the first time.

	GoopThe GP Spot

DP: Jack Shanahan
I had the pleasure of travelling to Italy, in the region of Umbria, with actress and entrepeneur Gwyneth Paltrow to film the first two episodes of the series ‘The GP Spot’ for her brand, Goop. In the first episode, we explore the way of living ‘all’italiana’, (that is Italian style).
For this project, I came up with the concept, the title and the overall execution.

	The Second Episode

In the second episode of the series, we went to the little town of Città di Castello as we shopped for the ingredients to make the perfect Italian homemade truffle gnocchi, with the help of local experts.

Shot in the island of Inis Meàin, Ireland
Established in 1976 by Tarlach de Blácam and his wife Ms Áine Ní Chonghaile, the Inis Meáin Knitting Company has achieved the remarkable feat of transforming a local cottage industry – and in this case, those words are literal – into a fashion label that’s stocked at specialist retailers as far afield as New York and Tokyo. On a tiny island off the west coast of Ireland, Inis Meáin draws on landscape and tradition to create clothing beloved the world over.

Six Degrees of Separation

	DP - Sesse Lindt
Filmed in New York, in this short and ironic video, I asked Hollywood actor Kevin Bacon, to play against inself in Six Degrees of Separation. If you type almost any famous person’s name into Google followed by “Bacon Number”, it will tell you how connected they are to the actor Kevin Bacon - Donald Trump has a Bacon Number of two. Ditto Kim Kardashian.
Before the fun was taken out of it by algorithms, “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon” was a good game to play if you were a movie buff. Inspired by “six degrees of separation” – the theory that says nobody is more than six people away from any other person in the world – the game was devised back in 1994 by three classmates at Albright College in Pennsylvania, while idly watching a Mr Bacon movie marathon on TV.Filmed at Milk Studios in New York
